BELKYRA Mesotherapy

For a safe and effective alternative to surgery or liposuction, Mesotherapy is a well established  treatment common in Europe and South America but harder to find in North America. Dr. Hajcsar has been specifically trained and certified in Mesotherapy to ensure success.

Introducing BELKYRA

BELKYRA (deoxycholic acid injection 10mg/ml) is the first and only injectable drug in Canada that is indicated for the improvement of appearance of moderate to severe submental fullness also known as “double chin”.

How BELKYRA works?

BELKYRA causes the destruction of fat cells when injected into subcutaneous fat. The active ingredient deoxycholic acid is a naturally-occurring molecule in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. Fat cleared from the treatment is processed through natural metabolic mechanism.

What to expect with BELKYRA?

Since every patient is unique, BELKYRA treatment is tailored based on the amount and distribution of submental fat, and every persons aesthetic goals. The doctor examines the area under and around the chin to determine if this product is right for you.The number of treatments required varies from patient to patient.

Normally a patient will experience redness, swelling, or bruising under the chin. It also include tenderness, numbness, or areas of hardiness under the chin. These side affects are temporary and typically resolve on there own. Less common side effects include temporary nerve injury in the jaw, and difficulty swallowing.

How long will it last?

After your desired aesthetic outcome has been achieved, further treatment is not expected(individual results vary). BELKYRA causes the destruction of fat cells so that they can no longer store or accumulate fat.

What is Mesotherapy?

Mesotherapy was first invented in 1952 as a way to deliver medication exactly to the site where it is most needed. It has been used in many applications such as pain control, headaches, herpes, and ulcerative colitis and has been used primarily in Europe and South America. The treatment consists of a series of shallow injections into the skin close to the site where you want the medication to work. Today it is used in the rapidly growing field of cosmetic body sculpting to reduce or eliminate small areas of fat or cellulite. The injections contain a mixture of natural enzymes that your body produces for itself but in small quantities. The enzymes mobilize fat out of the fat cell and allow your body to wash it out as waste. The enzymes only work locally where you inject them. They are purified from natural plant sources.

What can I have done?

Waist – lovehandles, outer thighs – saddlebags, abdomen, tummy bulge, double chin, upper arms, inner thighs, “bra bulge”, buttocks – the “banana”, fatty knees, large fat pads under the eyes and anywhere that cellulite forms.

Will I lose weight?

Only a small amount of weight will be lost. Mesotherapy is NOT FOR BULK WEIGHT LOSS, it is for spot reductions for cosmetic appearance. The ideal candidate has lost their weight but has fat deposits or cellulite that are resistant to diet and exercise.

Is it like Lipo suction?

No, it is less invasive and safer, with less downtime. Unlike liposuction, it requires repeated treatments with no downtime and only minimal discomfort. It also costs less than liposuction. The results are often more cosmetically acceptable than liposuction because the transition is gradual. Mesotherapy is often used after liposuction to correct the lumps and imperfections left after liposuction.

Are there side effects?

There is an immediate mild itching sensation followed by some warmth and tenderness to the touch. The tenderness is generally mild and only rarely do patients need to take Tylenol or Advil for the discomfort. Some patients find Arnica to be helpful. There is usually some swelling, so count on wearing loose fitting clothing for the treatment and for a few days afterwards. There can be some localized bruising that clears up in a few days. The needles themselves are extremely fine and are minimally painful. A topical anaesthetic may help but is only rarely needed.

Pre-Treatment Instructions

Avoid Aspirin, NSAIDS and vitamin supplements before the procedure. Wear loose fitting clothing you don’t mind getting a few stains on.
