Also known as permanent make-up, is a procedure applying pigment into the dermal layer of skin. This state of the art procedure has been performed for a variety of make-up enhancements for hundreds of years.
Cosmetic tattooing can offer subtle enhancements to lip liner & lip colour, upper and lower eyeliners and eyebrows. In more recent years, permanent colour techniques are being widely performed for camouflage therapy such as creating pigmentation for areola and nipple restoration, vitiligo, hypopigmentation and hairline scars.
Aside from the obvious aesthetic enhancements and definition, cosmetic tattooing has many other benefits.
What you need to know
How is it performed?
Sterilized, disposable needles are used to implant desired colour into the dermis layer of the skin.
Is it painful?
Highly effective topical anesthetics are applied to numb the area and provide comfort to ensure a perfect procedure. Generally, there is minimal discomfort.
What is involved in the healing and post care?
There is some redness and slight swelling immediately following the procedure. This disappears quickly after a day or so. Applying the ice is helpful as is keeping the area moist with healing agents.
Will I need more than one appointment?
A second appointment will be required, as the colour of pigmentation will fade after the first treatment (usually within 3-7 days). This second appointment will perfect and detail the final look. A second treatment is required to complete the procedure. As the years pass, (5-10 years) re-enhancements or maintenance may be desired for some people.
What is the pigment composed of?
Pigments are made of mineral and iron oxide base colourants. These colourants have been used in the cosmetic industry for years.
Who performs these procedures?
A trained and qualified micro-pigmintation technician will consult and review your procedure with you and will advise your best choice of colours and shape.
